Samsung has a genius way to stop spam calls from bothering you

Spam calls are annoying, even if you block them, you may get an alert on your phone or the screen may light up. The disturbance is never fully eliminated.

That may change if Samsung brings its patented spam call handling system, which would reject spam calls before they're even connected to your phone.

Samsung has filed a patent earlier this year which describes this new spam call handling system. When an incoming call is detected, your phone will first check that number against the block list on your phone.

This is done before the call is actually connected to your phone, so it doesn't alert you or light up the screen. If the system finds that number on your blocked list, it immediately sends a rejection message to the cellular network and the call is never connected.

This is better than existing systems which run this process when the call has been connected and you're disturbed. This method will ensure that the phone displays no alert. It also has other benefits, because there's less processing, there will be less battery drain and fewer unwanted notifications.

It remains to be seen if and when Samsung brings this call blocking system to its smartphones. This is one such feature that should definitely move beyond the company's patent stack and become reality as it will go a long way in improving the user experience of its devices.
