Samsung could stop selling QLED and Neo QLED TVs in the future

Samsung, the world's biggest TV brand, is quietly changing its strategy. Over the past decade, it popularized QLED and Neo QLED TVs, but it could stop selling them in the future. This shift is partly due to price wars driven by Chinese TV makers.

A report from Electronic Times claims that Samsung is significantly scaling down the production of Quantum Dot (QD) TVs. The company has reportedly produced 80% fewer QLED TVs this year, dropping from 10 million units in 2025 to just 2 to 3 million units in 2026. This can be seen as the company withdrawing from the QLED TV market.

The South Korean firm discontinued entry-level QLED TVs and replaced them with Mini LED TVs that lack the Quantum Dot films known to improve color accuracy and depth compared to regular LCD-based TVs. This change stems from aggressive pricing by Chinese rivals like Hisense and TCL, which have launched inexpensive QD TVs that sometimes contain very little QD material or lack it completely.

Even in the high-end TV segment, the company has reduced its Neo QLED TV models. These are TVs that use a Quantum Dot layer on top of Mini LED screens. Instead, the company introduced Micro RGB TVs, which feature RGB Mini LED technology. The report claims that Samsung will further reduce Neo QLED TV models next year and gradually stop selling them as early as 2028.

Samsung will likely replace all entry-level QLED TVs with Mini LED models and phase out Neo QLED TVs in favor of RGB Mini LED technology. It may continue selling OLED TVs (using both LG Display's W-OLED panels and Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels) in the high-end segment for buyers seeking per-pixel backlight control and perfect blacks.
