Here is what the different codes mean, where you can find yours, and whether it can be changed.

Samsung sells Galaxy phones and tablets in dozens of countries and through numerous mobile carriers. While the basic One UI experience is largely the same everywhere, the software is customized for different markets and networks.
These customizations are identified using three-letter codes commonly known as CSC codes. You may encounter them when checking which country your device was made for, looking up firmware, wondering why an update has not arrived, or troubleshooting a missing regional or carrier feature.
But Samsung’s CSC system is more complicated than a single country code. Here is what the different codes mean, where you can find yours, and whether it can be changed.
CSC usually stands for Country Specific Code. Interestingly, Samsung also uses Consumer Software Customization as the full form in some of its enterprise documentation.
Both terms refer to the regional and carrier customizations included in the software on a Galaxy device. These can include system settings, available languages, mobile network settings, carrier branding, preinstalled apps, and other country- or network-specific changes.
The word “country” does not tell the whole story. One country can have separate codes for unlocked devices and individual carriers. In the United States, for example, XAA is commonly used for unlocked devices, while ATT, TMB, and VZW represent AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, respectively.
Samsung users and firmware websites commonly refer to all these three-letter country and carrier identifiers as CSC codes. Strictly speaking, however, Samsung can treat a device’s sales code and the CSC package inside its firmware as separate pieces of information.
The CSC helps a Galaxy device apply the correct software configuration for the market or mobile network it was intended for.
Depending on the device and region, it can affect:
Features such as Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE, call recording, and Samsung Wallet can sometimes be affected by the CSC. However, their availability can also depend on the phone model, inserted SIM, carrier provisioning, and local regulations.
The CSC does not change the phone’s hardware. Switching to another code cannot add unsupported mobile network bands or turn one regional model into another.
You can check the CSC and other carrier-related information directly through the Settings app.
This section contains the phone’s sales code, network code, and carrier ID. Multiple three-letter codes may be shown because these values do not always match.
On a recent international Galaxy phone, you may see a line similar to this:
In this example, SM-S948B is the model number, OXM is the broader CSC firmware package, and INS is the active India country or sales code.
You may also see several slash-separated codes underneath. The first one is generally the active country or carrier code, while the other values provide information about the SIM, network, and original carrier configuration. Dual-SIM phones may show additional values.
Entering *#1234# in the Phone app can also display AP, CP, and CSC firmware information on some devices. However, this screen may show a broader package code such as OXM or OYN instead of the active country or carrier code. The Service provider software version section is therefore more useful for most users.
You can use the tables below to identify the country, region, or mobile carrier associated with your code.
However, CSC availability varies by device model and generation. A code used on one Galaxy device may not be supported by another. Samsung can also introduce new codes or stop using older ones.
For example, many recent European Galaxy devices use the general EUX or EUY codes, while older models used separate open-market codes such as BTU for the UK, DBT for Germany, and XEF for France.
Some countries have also received new codes on recent devices. Samsung has used both BNG and BKD for Bangladesh and both NPB and NPL for Nepal, depending on the device and firmware generation.
If you are downloading firmware, select your device’s exact model number first and use only a country or carrier listed for that model in our firmware archive.

USC should not be confused with an unlocked US CSC. It represents US Cellular, while XAA is the code normally associated with unlocked US Galaxy devices.

Japanese Galaxy devices often have unique model numbers for individual carriers, so their firmware should always be identified using the complete model number rather than the CSC alone.

Codes such as OXM, OYN, and OWO do not represent individual countries. They identify broader CSC packages that can contain software customizations for several countries or carriers.

For example, a phone can run an OXM firmware package while using INS as its active India configuration. Similarly, a US phone using the OYN package may have ATT, TMB, USC, or another supported carrier code active.
This is why seeing OXM in the firmware version does not necessarily tell you where the phone was sold.
It is technically possible to change the CSC on some Galaxy devices, but there is no universal CSC switch in the Settings app.
On supported carrier-unlocked phones in the United States, inserting another carrier’s SIM card or activating its eSIM can automatically apply the new carrier configuration. Samsung says the phone may update its branding, network configuration, carrier features, system apps, and Settings menus after it is restarted.
Manual CSC changes are also possible on some devices using compatible stock firmware, service procedures, or third-party utilities. However, these methods are not universally supported and may erase all data on the device.
The desired CSC must be compatible with the exact model number and firmware package. Installing firmware made for another country does not always change the active CSC, even if the firmware installs successfully.
Never attempt to install firmware intended for a different model number. For example, you cannot install firmware for the international SM-S948B on the US SM-S948U1.
Changing the CSC can also result in missing network features, problems receiving over-the-air updates, or region-specific apps and services no longer working correctly. If the phone is working normally and receiving updates, there is usually little reason to change it.
No. Changing the CSC does not remove a mobile carrier’s network lock.
A carrier-locked phone must be unlocked by the carrier that sold it. Samsung also requires a compatible US device to be carrier-unlocked before its automatic carrier-switching system can apply another network’s configuration.
Changing ATT to XAA, for example, does not automatically allow an AT&T-locked phone to accept SIM cards from every carrier.
Yes. Samsung makes firmware available for specific combinations of model number, sales code, and CSC package. As a result, two devices with the same retail name may not receive an update at the same time.
An unlocked Galaxy phone in one country may receive an update before a carrier model in another country. Even devices in the same country can be on different update schedules when they were sold by different carriers.
The CSC is not the only factor involved. Samsung rolls out some updates in stages, while carriers may test and approve updates on their own schedules.
Changing the CSC solely to download an update earlier is not recommended. The benefits of receiving an update a few days or weeks sooner rarely outweigh the risk of creating firmware, network, or regional compatibility problems.
A mismatched CSC does not necessarily mean something is wrong with the phone.

You may also be looking at a multi-CSC package such as OXM instead of the active country or carrier code. Check the complete Service provider software version information before drawing any conclusions.
Samsung firmware packages downloaded for manual installation normally contain files beginning with CSC and HOME_CSC.
Using the regular CSC file when installing firmware through Odin normally performs a factory reset and erases the phone’s data. The HOME_CSC file installs the firmware while preserving existing apps, files, and settings.
Neither file makes incompatible firmware safe to install. The firmware must still be designed for the exact Galaxy device model, and important data should always be backed up before a manual installation.
