TL;DR

  • Galaxy phones on One UI 8.5+ can rename home screen app and widget labels using Samsung’s Good Lock and Home Up apps.
  • After installing them from the Galaxy Store, enable Home screen and App icon settings, then turn on Edit item label on home screen.
  • Custom labels disappear if Home Up is disabled.

One UI offers the most UI customization options of any smartphone software, and Samsung continues to expand these capabilities with every new One UI release.

However, One UI does not include a native setting to rename app or widget labels on the home screen by default. Fortunately, you can easily unlock this feature using Samsung's official Good Lock suite on One UI 8.5 and above.

To change an app or widget label on your Galaxy phone or tablet, you will need to install two apps from the Galaxy Store: Good Lock and its Home Up module.

Here is how to set them up and edit app and widget names:

How to rename app and widget labels on One UI home screen

If you ever disable the Home Up module, your app and widget labels will revert to their default names. Re-enabling Home Up will instantly restore your custom labels.

Without using the Good Lock and Home Up apps, it isn't possible to rename an app's label in the app drawer in the default (One UI Home) app launcher on Galaxy phones or tablets. We hope that will change in the future.
