The most noticeable improvement is the crease — or rather, the near absence of one. It's still there, but it's virtually invisible in most lighting conditions. This new titanium layer also helps the screen stay creaseless over time.

Samsung also brought its anti-reflective display technology to the Fold 8 (and Fold 8 Ultra), exclusively to the foldable screen. It's not a new concept, having debuted on the Galaxy S Ultra series in 2024, but it's new for Samsung's Galaxy Z lineup and makes the screen easier to use outdoors.

Speaking of which, the latest foldable display technology also outshines last year's, literally. The Fold 8's 7.6-inch foldable display can reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness, helping keep content readable even in direct sunlight. This is Samsung's new record, up from 2,600 nits.

Silicon-carbon battery

The entire 2026 lineup, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, debuts with a new battery technology based on silicon-carbon (Si-C). It's a Li-Ion battery with a Si-C anode.

Thanks to this new technology, the Galaxy Z Fold 8's 4,800mAh battery has a higher energy density. It takes up less physical space than a conventional battery with the same capacity, which may have given Samsung more room to experiment with the Fold 8's new form factor.

The icing on the cake is upgraded charging. Fold 8 users benefit from 45W wired and 20W wireless charging.
