Samsung's new foldable flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, has been available for pre-order in the US since last week. It starts shipping soon, but if you're looking for a reason to order yours before the pre-order window closes, we have at least three.
Whether you're new to foldables or an existing Flip user in the United States looking to upgrade through a trade-in, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 stands out thanks to its refined design, improved chipset, and new battery technology. Let's take a closer look.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 looks almost the same as the Flip 7, except Samsung has made it even thinner and lighter.
The new Flip 8 is also about 8 grams lighter. It weighs 180 grams, down from 188 grams.

How has Samsung managed to achieve a thinner profile and a lighter phone? It may have something to do with the second reason you should consider getting the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the two Fold models unveiled at Unpacked in London are Samsung's first phones to feature new Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) battery technology.
More specifically, the Flip 8 uses a Li-Ion battery with a Si-C anode, which delivers a higher energy density.
In theory, Samsung had three options:
Samsung chose the second option. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains its 4,300mAh battery, but the denser Si-C cell allowed Samsung to make the phone thinner and lighter.
Samsung did something unusual last year when it released its first Galaxy Z Flip model equipped with an Exynos chip. Even in the USA, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 launched with the Exynos 2500 SoC.
This year, Samsung went back to the old approach, at least in the USA, and announced the Galaxy Z Flip 8 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

In general, many Samsung fans prefer Qualcomm's Snapdragon “for Galaxy” chips over Samsung's in-house Exynos solutions. The fact that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 returns to Snapdragon is reason enough for some existing Flip owners to trade up.
And if you're new to foldables, the takeaway is simple: the Galaxy Z Flip 8 packs Samsung's most powerful mobile chip yet. It's the same processor used across the rest of the Galaxy Z8 series and the Galaxy S26 lineup in the USA.
Pre-order perks arguably aren't as generous as they were a couple of years ago, but Samsung US still offers solid trade-in discounts.
If you're upgrading from an older Flip model or switching from a traditional slab phone, you can save up to $600 with an eligible trade-in.
If you don't have a phone to trade in, Samsung US will instead give you a $150 store credit you can put toward accessories or wearables.
