The 40mm model has a 20% larger battery than its predecessor.

Almost every new Galaxy Watch has featured a larger battery than its predecessor, and Samsung's latest model in the lineup, the Galaxy Watch 9, is no exception. In fact, it brings one of the biggest battery upgrades the lineup has seen in recent years.
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Watch 9 in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. The smaller model packs a 390mAh battery, while the larger variant comes with a 445mAh battery. By comparison, its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 8, featured 325mAh and 435mAh batteries in its 40mm and 44mm versions, respectively.
That means the 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 offers a 20% larger battery than its predecessor, while the 44mm model gets a more modest 2.3% increase. As you can see, the smaller variant receives a much more substantial upgrade, one that is larger than what we've typically seen across previous generations.
Combined with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset, which appears to be more power-efficient than the Exynos W1000 used in the Galaxy Watch 8, the Galaxy Watch 9 should deliver noticeably better battery life than its predecessor.
