TL;DR

  • Neither the Galaxy Z Fold 8 nor the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra supports the S Pen.
  • That's despite the Galaxy Z Fold 8's new 4:3 inner display, which looks like it would have been an excellent canvas for Samsung's stylus.
  • The company dropped S Pen support with the Fold 7, and that decision continues with the Fold 8 lineup.

After months of speculation, Samsung unveiled its 2026 foldable phones at Unpacked in London on July 22. The lineup has expanded from two to three main models. It now consists of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Despite the seemingly straightforward names, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, not the Ultra, is the newest addition to the lineup. Samsung reshuffled the product branding, and the new Ultra is the true sequel to the Fold 7.

Meanwhile, the standard Fold 8 is anything but. It's Samsung's new passport-style foldable phone, and it may be a missed opportunity for S Pen fans.

Do the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 models support the S Pen?

To save you the suspense, neither the Galaxy Z Fold 8 nor the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have an S Pen holster or S Pen support. Even if you buy an S Pen yourself and try pairing it with the phone, it won't work.

Nevertheless, the question seems perfectly justified. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be Samsung's best S Pen phone that never was. The 5.5-inch cover screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio, but more importantly, the foldable 7.6-inch display uses a 4:3 aspect ratio.

That inner display would've been near perfect for the S Pen, but Samsung gave up on its Fold S Pen ambitions last year. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 abandoned the S Pen in 2025, so we weren't expecting a miracle from its direct successor.

Naturally, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which despite the name is the direct Fold 7 successor, doesn't have S Pen support. What about the wider model? Nope. Still a miss.

Truthfully, we never had high hopes for the S Pen to return based on leaks on the matter, or lack thereof. Still, given the all-new Fold 8 and its untapped potential for an exceptional stylus experience, the question had to be answered.

Unfortunately, if you're an S Pen fan, you'll have to stick with the Galaxy S series or a Galaxy Tab. Either that, or keep using your older Fold until you can't squeeze any more mileage out of it.

As for future Fold sequels, it seems unlikely that Samsung's wide Fold models will adopt the S Pen anytime soon, or ever. But you never know. Samsung might yet surprise.
