Samsung is moving toward faster magnetic wireless charging for its phones. Currently, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the company’s fastest wireless charging phone, featuring 25W wireless charging. However, those speeds could eventually reach 50W, as the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) is taking important steps in that direction.
IT Home reports that the WPC recently held an off-cycle meeting at Xiaomi’s headquarters in Beijing, China. According to the report, 50W magnetic wireless charging was one of the topics discussed. Xiaomi already offers 50W wireless charging on many of its high-end phones. While the upgraded power limit has not been finalized yet, it could be released sometime in 2028. Phones using the standard could launch in the same year or in 2029.
Over 20 companies, including Apple, Google, Honor, Huawei, OPPO, and Vivo, attended the meeting, but Samsung didn't.

Samsung has already developed wireless charging chips that support up to 50W wireless charging. So, if those speeds are incorporated into a future version of the Qi standard, we expect Samsung to bring them to its high-end Galaxy phones.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh battery can be fully charged in around 1.5 hours using a compatible 25W Qi2.2 charger and a compatible magnetic case. If Samsung continues using 5,000mAh batteries in future phones, 50W wireless charging could reduce a full charge to well under an hour.
As the smartphone industry moves beyond 5,000mAh batteries, Samsung could equip future Galaxy phones with higher-capacity batteries. Even then, 50W wireless charging could keep charging times close to one hour, depending on the battery capacity.
