Many smartphone users, especially enthusiasts, eagerly wait for new software updates. These updates usually bring new features and improvements. However, they can sometimes introduce bugs that frustrate users. A similar situation can occur with modern home appliances, especially those with screens and advanced software features.
Recently, Samsung released a software update for its $2,000 Bespoke AI Laundry Combo series washers. Normally, such updates are expected to add or improve functionality, or at least maintain existing features. However, in this case, users report that the update removed essential functionality.
According to user reports (via Android Authority), wash options listed under the ‘More Cycles' section appeared blank after installing the update. As a result, users were unable to start a wash cycle. Some users found temporary workarounds by switching display themes, while others had to perform a factory reset on their washer-dryer combo twice to restore the washing functionality.
As more appliance brands introduce connected and software-driven products, the risk of such issues is likely to increase. This highlights the need for better update management, including the option to roll back to a previous software version or avoid mandatory updates altogether.
