Samsung’s chip plant in Taylor is ready for setup, hiring ramps up

Over the past five years, Samsung has been working diligently to build its new chip manufacturing plant in Taylor, Texas. Significant progress has been made, and reports from Korea now say the plant has transitioned from construction to the setup phase.

This means Samsung’s Taylor factory is ready for chip manufacturing equipment installation. More than 3,000 engineers, some hired by Samsung and others dispatched by equipment manufacturers, have begun assembling in Texas.

The core equipment for the Taylor plant is estimated to weigh around 20,000 tons. It includes ultra-precision tools, deposition and etching systems, and EUV scanners. The factory will be capable of manufacturing chips on the advanced 2nm process.

Samsung recently confirmed to us that its production plans in Taylor remain unchanged. The company still aims for the facility to be operational by the end of 2026.

Once ready for mass production, the Taylor factory is expected to employ roughly 1,500 people and relocate some personnel from other facilities to assist in getting the Taylor semiconductor ball rolling.

Samsung has already started recruiting. Industry sources say the company has posted 178 jobs across 146 roles, including Technical, Infrastructure/Safety, and Operations/Management.
