Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will get a major connectivity upgrade

After launching its first Ultra-branded Galaxy Watch in 2024, Samsung refreshed the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year by doubling its storage capacity. Later this year, however, the South Korean firm is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and it could bring a major wireless connectivity upgrade.

According to a report from GalaxyClub, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could become Samsung’s first smartwatch with built-in 5G cellular connectivity. If the information is accurate, the watch could offer better call quality and significantly faster data speeds when a connected phone is not nearby.

This development would not be surprising. Earlier this month, Samsung revealed that it worked with Qualcomm to co-develop the Snapdragon Wear Ultra processor for smartwatches. While the company did not confirm which Galaxy Watch model would debut with the new chip, the Galaxy Watch Ultra lineup would be a logical choice. The Snapdragon Wear Elite processor also includes a built-in 5G modem.

In addition to improved cellular connectivity, the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, ultra-wideband (UWB), and NB-NTN, which enables direct satellite connectivity for calls and texts. The processor is built on a 3nm process and features a five-core CPU along with a significantly more powerful GPU. It also offers faster AI processing thanks to a built-in NPU.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in mid-2026.
