After announcing its partnership with Google for smart glasses and XR headsets last year, Samsung has now confirmed plans to launch its own smart glasses in 2026. While the company did not reveal an exact timeline, the smart glasses could arrive before the end of the year.
During Samsung Electronics’ earnings call with investors, Seong Cho, executive vice president of Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division, said the company plans to deliver “rich, immersive multimodal AI experiences” across several form factors, including smartphones and “next-generation AR glasses.”
Samsung’s first smart glasses may not feature an AR display, also known as a heads-up display, but they are rumored to include a camera, microphones, and speakers. They will likely use the Android XR platform and integrate well with Samsung's ecosystem of Galaxy products, including smartphones, smartwatches, and smart rings.
Reports indicate that Samsung is working on two smart glasses identified by model numbers SM-O200P and SM-O200J. Since both are reportedly intended for the same markets, they may be variants with minor differences. Earlier leaks suggest that Samsung’s first-generation smart glasses will not include an AR display, while a second-generation model with an AR display could launch in 2027.
Samsung has already announced a partnership with eyewear fashion brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker for smart glasses.
Meta has already released two generations of smart glasses and has showcased a prototype featuring an integrated AR display. Apple is also reportedly developing multiple smart glasses, similar to Samsung’s approach, with one model lacking a display and another featuring an AR display.
