Samsung acquired SmartThings back in 2014 and consolidated all of its smart home initiatives under its umbrella. It has continued to expand the capabilities and functionality since then, and users have jumped on to take full advantage of the convenience that it offers.
SmartThings continues to record a sharp increase in the number of users relying on the platform year after year. The latest numbers revealed by Samsung are just as impressive as we've seen in the past.
Cheolgi Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics announced at CES 2026 that as of December 2025, SmartThings has more than 430 million users. That's a considerable uptick over the past year, as the company had previously announced that SmartThings had hit 350 million users back in September 2024.
Adding more than 80 million users in just over a year is no small achievement, and it goes to show that users continue to find incredible value from the capabilities that the SmartThings platform offers. Based on the trajectory that it's on right now, it's entirely possible that we may see SmartThings hit half a billion users by the end of 2026.
The company also announced the first of its kind partnership with Hartford Steam Boiler to unlock more savings for users. It highlighted the benefits of having smart devices on the SmartThings platform to reduce insurance premiums, thus increasing protections and reducing costs for users.
A pilot run was conducted for this in the United States last year, and it will now be expanded to more states as well as to more home insurance providers across the globe.
