The latest version of Google Chrome for Android offers 'Show Reading Mode' option consistently on every webpage.
Reading time: 2 minutes
Even though Google Chrome comes pre-installed on almost all Android smartphones these days, it is still not as feature-rich and customizable as Samsung Internet. It has recently made it easier to access Reading Mode, but it is still not as easy to access as Samsung Internet's Reader Mode.
Google Chrome previously displayed a Reading Mode button only when it deemed fit. With its latest app update (version 143 stable), the web browser now has a dedicated ‘Show Reading Mode' option in its three-dot menu. It now consistently appears (via 9To5Google) on every webpage, regardless of whether it has paragraphs of text.
This dedicated shortcut is still harder to access compared to Samsung Internet's Reader Mode button, which appears directly inside the URL bar when an article or paragraphs of text appear on the webpage.
Google is offering more text options, though. When the Reading Mode is active, you can swipe up the Reading Mode tab's handle to reveal three types of fonts: Mono, Sans Serif, and Serif. You can also choose between three background colors: black, sepia, and white. It also allows you to change the text size from 100% all the way up to 250%.
We have long requested that Samsung bring improvements to Reader Mode by offering font and background styles, but the company hasn't introduced those features yet. Currently, you can only change the text size in Samsung Internet's Reader Mode.
