Samsung has started development of the One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This revelation comes on the same day the company began rolling out the stable One UI 8 update to the Fold 7's predecessor, indicating that the company is working on both existing and upcoming updates simultaneously.
When it comes time for One UI 8.5 to be rolled out to existing users next year, the Fold 7 will almost certainly be the first Samsung foldable to receive the update. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will no doubt be next in line, and the older models will follow thereafter. The Galaxy S26 lineup, meanwhile, will launch running One UI 8.5 out of the box.
One UI 8.5 could bring notable UI changes to Samsung's proprietary apps. Samsung may also be taking inspiration from iOS 26's Liquid Glass in making various visual elements more transparent, though the extent to which it will do remains to be seen. Samsung may also introduce Galaxy AI-powered notification summaries, along with automatic protection from spam calls.
With One UI 8.5 firmware for the Galaxy S25 Ultra now out in the wild, we’ll likely learn about more new features in the coming days. We should also get a clearer idea of how big the One UI 8.5 update will be in terms of visible changes; we hope it’s substantial after the disappointment that was One UI 8.
