Video calling has become extremely important, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. Video calling has become an important part of getting modern work done. Apple's macOS has had better video calling features than its competitors, but Google doesn't want to fall behind. According to a new report, Google's Chrome OS may soon get helpful video calling tools such as background blur, portrait lighting, and more.

While there are apps that can give you the option of background blur, having native capabilities is something way better. Google Chrome OS's team might soon replicate a bunch of Apple's built-in camera effects, as spotted in a new code change. The background blur feature will reportedly be locked behind a flag, at least initially. This feature will be powered by machine learning, which means that only newer Chrome OS devices will support it.

Chrome OS may also gain portrait lighting and auto framing abilities during video calls

As noted by 9To5Google, currently, Google is testing background blur effects on Chromebooks with 11th Gen and 12th Gen Intel processors. Along with background blur, other features such as portrait lighting might also arrive on Chrome OS, as mentioned by a Googler, along with an auto framing feature, similar to what we have on Google Duo and the Galaxy Tab S8's front-facing camera natively.

There are a few other codes that show that Google might also add a feature in Chrome OS that will begin monitoring the video call, showing warnings to the user when a network gets unstable. These are early stages of development, and there is no fixed timeline on when these features will make their way to Chrome OS.
