There's a lot of speculation regarding the next-gen camera Samsung will use for its upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra flagship phone. Industry watchers are sure that the device won't adopt the existing ISOCELL HP1 or ISOCELL HP3 sensors but a new camera that Samsung has yet to announce.

The ISOCELL HP1 and HP3 sit in the 200-megapixel family. The Galaxy S23 Ultra could also have a 200MP sensor, and leakster @UniverseIce now speculates that Samsung's next flagship could feature the so-called ISOCELL HP2. At the moment, the latter is missing from Samsung's lineup and hasn't been announced.

Samsung is playing the high-resolution mobile camera game

As for specifications, since the ISOCELL HP1 and HP3 have 0.64μm and 0.56μm pixels, respectively, the source further speculates that the ISOCELL HP2 sensor could fall right in the middle and have 0.60μm pixels.

Wilder rumors suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may feature a 450MP camera, although it sounds a bit too much to be true. And according to other rumors, the Galaxy S23 Ultra's zoom camera might miss out on upgrades.

Whatever the case may be, there's a very high probability of Samsung upgrading the Galaxy S23 Ultra's primary camera with a higher-resolution sensor above 108MP. The company avoided playing the high-resolution camera game for years, but now it seems dedicated to setting an example and crushing its rivals in the numbers game.
