Galaxy S23 Ultra to feature an unannounced 200MP camera

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to become Samsung's first smartphone to feature a 200MP camera. However, according to a new rumor, the company has yet to reveal the 200MP sensor that it plans to use for its next S-line flagship phone.

In other words, the Galaxy S23 Ultra won't feature the ISOCELL HM1 or the ISOCELL HM3 sensors. The HP1 was employed by other OEMs, and the HM3 got announced in May.

According to a recent rumor (via @UniverseIce), the Galaxy S23 Ultra will supposedly be equipped with a 200MP sensor that Samsung has yet to announce. Evidently, the HM1 and the HM3 sensors are out of the equation.

No other details are known about this mysterious 200MP sensor destined for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it could be a variation of the existing HM3 with minor upgrades. Or perhaps it will be a new sensor designed to combat Sony's new 1-inch sensor.

Time will tell, and time we have left. Samsung could reveal the Galaxy S23 series in the first quarter of 2023. Until then, the company has two foldable flagship phones coming in August-September. Neither device has a 200MP camera.

Samsung's high-resolution ISOCELL sensors are often used by other companies rather than Samsung's own Galaxy devices. However, some phones make an exception, and the Galaxy S Ultra line has been pushing the limits on camera sensor resolution for the past few years. The Galaxy S23 Ultra should break a new record.
