Samsung Electronics has added another training course to its portfolio for new employees. According to industry sources cited by PulseNews, since mid-2021, every entry-level Samsung employee is now required to take a training course in computer programming.
This new requirement applies to entry-level employees across different fields, regardless of whether Samsung hired them for the finance or marketing departments. Every entry-level employee is now required to take classes in computer programming for a period of six weeks.
Samsung wants everyone to have the potential of being a problem solver
The new mandatory coding courses were apparently included in Samsung's employee programs at the request of the CEO of Device Solutions, Kyung Kye-hyun. The idea is to allow employees to think beyond their job descriptions and, potentially, become problem solvers in the software segment.
The six-week training period covers programming languages such as Python and Java. In addition, Samsung also offers higher-level programming courses to employees that occupy software engineer positions in the company.
Apart from these new courses, Samsung offers training for employees in other fields, ranging from workplace safety to business management. And, of course, the company has been running the SSAFY (Samsung Software Academy for Youth) program since 2018, giving 1,000 students (every year) a chance to enroll in a 12-month software development course.
