Samsung could speed up the firmware update process for customers in Europe

Samsung is seemingly working on speeding up the firmware update process for Galaxy device customers in Europe. The company made some changes to the way it distributes firmware updates in Europe starting with the release of the Galaxy A52 last year, wherein the device is no longer bound to a Country Specific Code (CSC) when it comes to firmware. Well, it seems like Samsung will be adopting this strategy for more phones moving forward, which could lead to faster firmware updates and easier access to beta firmware.

Up until the release of the Galaxy A52 last year, firmware updates for Galaxy phones in each European country were associated with a Country Specific Code, or “CSC” for short. The Galaxy A52 (4G, to be precise) was the first phone in Europe to have firmware with the same CSC in different European countries, i.e., “EUX,” and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 / Z Fold 3 followed.

According to a new report from our colleagues at Galaxy Club, Samsung is now only developing “EUX” firmware for several upcoming Galaxy smartphones in Europe, which means it could be fully transitioning to this new strategy.

Galaxy S22, A53, A33, A13 could enjoy speedier firmware updates in some markets

Sources say that Samsung is no longer developing firmware with different CSC for European countries — at least not for upcoming devices such as the Galaxy S22 flagship series, the Galaxy A53 mid-range hero, and the Galaxy A33 and A13 budget offerings.

In theory, this could mean that Samsung will speed up the firmware update process for these phones in Europe. Fewer Country Specific Codes should mean that the company won't have to develop as many firmware versions for the same update, and at least in theory, this sounds like a sure way to bring updates to the market faster.

In addition, decreasing the number of CSC firmware versions could allow customers in more countries to join early beta programs for future updates. Time will tell, and we'll surely keep an eye on how the company's firmware update rollout schedule progresses over the coming months.
