Alongside new MicroLED and lifestyle TVs, Samsung unveiled new Neo QLED TVs. The company claims that its 2022 Neo QLED TVs feature a new Neo Quantum Processor for improved backlighting control. The TVs also feature improved picture quality, audio performance, and new software features.

Samsung's 2022 Neo QLED TVs come in 4K and 8K variants. They feature MiniLED backlight and advanced contrast mapping. This increases brightness levels from 12-bit in 2021 Neo QLED TVs to 14-bit in the newer ones, resulting in greater light source control and better HDR performance. Previous-generation Neo QLED TVs feature 4,096 steps of brightness levels, and that figure has quadrupled to 16,384 steps with the newer generation.

These TVs also feature AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDR10+, HDR10+ GAMING, up to 144Hz refresh rate, and HDMI 2.1 ports, which means they are perfect for high-refresh-rate gaming via Xbox Series X, PS5, and even PCs. Sadly, there's no support for Dolby Vision.

The South Korean firm says that it has implemented the Shape Adaptive Light feature, which analyzes the shape (line or shape) of objects on the screen to improve the brightness and accuracy of those shapes. This could help with the blooming issue commonly found in MiniLED TVs.

The company has also used the Real Depth Enhancer feature to recognize individual objects and process them against their backgrounds. It improves the picture quality and realism by adding a sense of depth to the image. The new EyeComfort mode uses sensors built into 2022 Neo QLED TVs and the time to adjust the brightness and white balance so that users don't suffer from eye strain.

Samsung is also introducing OTS Pro (Object Tracking Sound Pro) with its 2022 lineup of Neo QLED TVs. It uses AI to analyze objects moving on the screen and then uses the TV's up-firing speakers to create overhead sound. The previous generation Neo QLED TVs could only use side-firing speakers to emulate the sound of objects moving from one side of the frame to another.

Top-firing speakers also make the new TVs compatible with Dolby Atmos. It means that 2022 Neo QLED TVs can offer Dolby Atmos audio without a need for additional soundbars or multi-channel speaker systems. The TVs also feature Q Symphony, which combines audio from the TV and a compatible Samsung soundbar to create more immersive audio.

The South Korean firm has also improved the software on its TVs. The new Neo QLED TVs feature a newer version of Tizen that collates and curates content from all major streaming services. This is similar to Apple TV and Google TV, but we are unsure if it also supports Netflix. Consumers can use an NFT platform to discover, buy, and trade digital artwork. The Watch Together feature can be used to watch content with friends and family while being on a video call using the TV.

The company has also transformed the Game Bar into a completely new Gaming Hub that offers cloud gaming, FPS meter, and a lot of other things that improve the gaming experience. Other features of the new TVs include SmartThings, Samsung Health, SpaceFit Sound audio calibration, Alexa, and Active Voice Amplifier.

SolarCell remote is great but costs premium TV buyers a metal finish

Samsung's TV remotes went through a few evolutionary phases in recent years, and we seem to have arrived at a point of consistency across different TV lineups. What I mean by this is that every 2024 mid-range and high-end TV model launched so far comes with the same remote, i.e., the SolarCell. That includes 4K […]
