Nokia’s working on a budget Android 12 phone powered by Exynos 7884B

Samsung hasn't used the Exynos 7884-series chipsets in roughly two years, but the Exynos 7884B SoC might find its way onto the market again through a different brand of smartphones, i.e., Nokia.

A mysterious mobile device identified as the Nokia Suzume was benchmarked recently in Geekbench. According to the online tool, the so-called Nokia Suzume is powered by the Exynos 7884B chipset, which was released by Samsung a few years back. The company hasn't used this series of Exynos SoCs since it launched the Galaxy A20 in 2019.

Exynos 7884B SoC meets Android 12

Given the inclusion of the Exynos 7884B SoC and 3GB of RAM, the Nokia Suzume should fall in the low-cost smartphone category. But, interestingly enough, Geekbench suggests that Nokia's mysterious budget device runs Android 12.

Samsung doesn't have an Exynos 7884B-powered phone eligible for the Android 12 update, but Nokia could be working on bringing these two elements together with the release of the Suzume.

For what it's worth, the smartphone posted respectable benchmark scores. It topped 306 points and 1,000 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

The Exynos 7884B SoC features six power-efficient ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores, two ARM Cortex-A73 performance cores, and a Mali G71-MP2 graphics chip. The relatively-high scores may have been helped by a boost in CPU frequency of up to 2.08GHz for the Cortex-A73 cores, and up to 1.69GHz for the Cortex-A53 cluster.

As yet, there's very little information about the so-called Nokia Suzume smartphone powered by Android 12 and the Exynos 7884B SoC, so there's no telling when or if Nokia has any real plans to release it. We'll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.
