The era of artificial intelligence is upon us and some of the world's biggest companies are looking for new partnerships to boost their AI capabilities. As a leading supplier of high-performance memory solutions, crucial for AI chips, Samsung finds itself in an enviable position.

It's already collaborating with companies like NVIDIA on its upcoming AI chips. It appears that Microsoft is hopeful of a Samsung partnership as well, with a top-level meeting scheduled between the two companies next month.

There's a lot that Samsung can do for Microsoft

According to a new report, the head of Samsung's semiconductor business Kung Kye-hyun has been invited by Microsoft to MS CEO Summit 2024. The summit takes place on May 14 in Redmond, Washington.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and CEO Satya Nadella will hold closed-door meetings with Samsung's semiconductor boss to find new avenues of collaboration that promote AI partnerships. The company is reportedly interested in exploring opportunities for the joint development and supply of AI chips with Samsung.

The company may also be interested in having some of its software AI services on Samsung's electronic devices. Much of the heavy lifting is done by Google's AI services in Galaxy AI and Microsoft would hope that its services also get integrated in Samsung's Galaxy AI suite that's available currently for 100 million devices, and will only expand further in the coming years.

In addition to Samsung, Microsoft has also invited the heads of SK Hynix, LG Electronics, and SK Telecom. Observers comment that it's rare for Microsoft to request the participation of the top brass of South Korea's biggest tech firms. It only goes to show how serious Microsoft is about forming alliances that help it excel in the AI field.
