Google has been merging and simplifying its apps and services over the past few years. First, it merged Google Duo and Google Meet. Then, it migrated Google Assistant reminders to Google Tasks. The company appears to be planning the same for Google Keep reminders.

Google Keep reminders will be migrated to Google Tasks to simplify things

According to a new report from Piunika Web and tipster @AssembleDebug, Google Keep's reminders could be moved to Google Tasks. The Google Keep app has a separate section called Reminders that you can access from the sidebar on the left. All the notes you create in this section are associated with a date and time when you will be reminded of this task. Information about this was revealed via strings of code in the latest beta version (2024.04.08.624881071.1) of Google Keep for Android.

Once Google releases this change to Google Keep, users could be forced to migrate their reminders from Google Keep to Google Tasks. Those migrated reminders will appear in a new list called ‘Tasks from Keep' in the Google Tasks app. Users might have to add detailed descriptions to reminders in the Tasks app.

This is a good move from Google, as it simplifies things and clarifies which features are associated with particular apps from Google. However, it might make things harder for users using the Google Keep app to create reminders. They must install one more app on their Android phone or tablet once Google goes live with the change.

The Galaxy experience can be messy for first-time users

Some say it's always better to have more options, but it's never as clear-cut as it sounds. This design philosophy doesn't always work, and more importantly, it isn't a magical shortcut that can patch everything up and always lead to a better user experience. On the contrary, if not handled properly, I believe the “more […]
