That may no longer be the case. A new rumor claims that Nintendo has decided to delay the console's release and that it won't be launched until 2025 now. It's pertinent to note that the company itself hadn't provided a firm release timeline for the console.
Multiple sources are reporting that Nintendo has informed games publishers that its next-generation console is going to be released in the first quarter of 2025. It's possible that Nintendo is following historical precedent here as the original Switch was first unveiled in October 2016 but only released in March 2017.
The possibility still exists that Nintendo may follow a similar strategy for its next console's launch. It may only announce the device in the last quarter of this year and only release it next year. The reports mention that Nintendo has only recently informed publishers that the console will be coming out in early 2025.
Details about the new console are slim at this point in time and the company hasn't even officially confirmed the name, so there's no indication as yet if it's going to be called the Switch 2 after all. Earlier reports have suggested that the handheld console will have an 8-inch LCD display, larger than the 7-inch original, but inferior to the Switch OLED's 7-inch OLED display. It's possible that Nintendo may launch an OLED version of its new console down the line.
