A couple of new independent comparison videos featuring the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ have emerged, and they're both trying to determine if there's a difference between Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants. More accurately, they're trying to figure out how big of a difference there is between the two chips. Some discrepancies were always expected.

As a reminder, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC from Qualcomm, the Galaxy s24 and S24+ models use this chip only in select markets. In most regions, the base and Plus models rock a new Exynos 2400 chip, which Samsung took two years to develop after a one-year break following the release of the Exynos 2200.

Back to the independent comparison videos (via Techmo and Booredatwork), each tells quite a different story, yet they share a common theme. That theme is: Snapdragon remains superior to Exynos.

Judging by these videos, the difference between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400 chips is more of a factor when comparing the base Galaxy S24 models.

The video above also indicates that the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24 might have more difficulties with 5G connectivity than the Snapdragon model.

Meanwhile, the video comparing the Galaxy S24+ indicates that performance, thermals, and battery life are comparable across the Exynos and Snapdragon versions.

This may be an indicator that the base Galaxy S24 model's smaller footprint and cooling might create a bigger performance and efficiency gap between the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips. Whereas the larger Galaxy S24+ variants, which have bigger batteries and vapor chambers, might close whatever gap there is between the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoCs.

Should you really pass up the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24?

If you feel like you're paying for a lesser product should you choose the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24, then it's for you to decide where you spend your cash. Even so, it's still probably better if you could try the Exynos 2400 and Galaxy S24 / S24+ first-hand at a Samsung store before swiping your credit card or jumping to conclusions.

Keep in mind that synthetic benchmarks shouldn't be taken at face value, especially in this day and age, and real-life usage — or, case in point, different comparison tests — might tell a different story. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is likely superior to the Exynos SoC in many aspects, but by how much can vary between S24 variants and testing environments.

One thing we can say with certainty is that none of the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24 or S24+ models we've used over the past couple of weeks ever froze up. Yet the S24 model featured in the first video above did freeze, so take that as you will and chalk it up to random chance or don't. Otherwise, our Exynos Galaxy S24s have shown no signs that they're sluggish or power-hungry.
