Although Samsung is the leader in foldable phones globally, the company doesn't have as much pull in China, where customers prefer local brands. Huawei manufactures some of the most popular foldable phones in China, and according to new reports, the company is preparing to announce a new foldable device next month.

A Huawei insider on Weibo (via GizmoChina) has revealed that Huawei will hold a conference in February to celebrate the New Year and launch a “new small foldable product.” This device has the codename “LEM.”

The source doesn't specify whether the upcoming Huawei foldable phone has a Fold or Flip-like form factor, but since it's supposed to be a “small” foldable product, it's likely a flip phone.

Huawei Pocket S sold well in China

The Huawei Pocket S, released in November 2022, had the largest user base in China as of August 2023 (via Statista). It was followed by the Vivo X Flip, the Huawei P50 Pocket, the Oppo Find N2 Flip, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

It is possible that this new upcoming Huawei foldable phone will be a Pocket-series flip phone. And it will most likely remain exclusive to China. Sources cited by the Chinese media say that Huawei will release the so-called “LEM” phone in late February. Specifications remain unknown.
