Google Pixel 9 renders are out, first non-Pro Pixel with three rear cameras

On Wednesday, we got to see the first set of renders of the Google Pixel 9 Pro, and just as we had expected, the renders of the other smartphone in the lineup, the Google Pixel 9, are also out, courtesy of OnLeaks and 91Mobiles.

Going by these images, the Pixel 9 looks like a shrunken version of the Pixel 9 Pro. That’s how similar the two devices look. Unlike the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 has flat sides similar to the iPhone 15 and Galaxy S24, a redesigned camera hump that has an oval shape and isn’t connected to the frame anymore, and a SIM card slot at the bottom of the device rather than on the left. The exposed antennas also suggest that the phone has a metal frame.

Pixel 9 will have a smaller display than Pixel 8

According to the publication, the Pixel 9 will have a 6.1-inch display, 0.1-inch smaller than that of the Pixel 8. So, Google seems to be cutting down the display size when all the other brands are doing the opposite. Personally, I prefer smaller phones as they are easier to hold. Other people, however, might not like this.

What bothers me here is that despite a smaller display, the Pixel 9 measures 52.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm, which means that it is taller and wider than the Pixel 8, which is weird. It’s the same case with the Pixel 9 Pro, which has a 0.2-inch smaller display compared to the Pixel 8 Pro, and yet, the phone is taller and wider.

First non-Pro Pixel with three rear cameras

Coming to the most interesting part, the renders show that the Pixel 9 has three cameras as opposed to two on the Pixel 8. If that turns out to be true, the Pixel 9 would be the first non-Pro Pixel device to have three cameras. That being said, this addition was long due as competitors have been offering it for years.

Last but not least, these renders show that one of the colors in which Google will offer the device is blue. Previous leaks have suggested that both Pixel 9 series smartphones will have the Google Tensor G4 chipset which will most likely be based on the Samsung Exynos 2400 SoC and made by Samsung Foundry.

The Galaxy experience can be messy for first-time users

Some say it's always better to have more options, but it's never as clear-cut as it sounds. This design philosophy doesn't always work, and more importantly, it isn't a magical shortcut that can patch everything up and always lead to a better user experience. On the contrary, if not handled properly, I believe the “more […]

Android 15 could bring better third-party camera apps to Galaxy phones

While Android is more open than iOS and iPadOS, there is one area where Android apps have always lagged: third-party camera apps. The Android ecosystem has struggled because third-party apps can't access some camera features. However, that can change with Android 15, as Google has added a new feature that allows third-party camera apps to […]
