You could soon be able to take more Galaxy A series phones for a swim

A report from The Elec states that several Galaxy A series smartphones could get different levels of water resistance, although the exact IP rating could vary on a device-by-device basis. Everything starting from the mid-range Galaxy A33 and above is slated for an upgrade. IP (ingress protection) rating, while not an important feature, could help set apart Samsung's phones from the competition.

Samsung will source the silicone parts required for the dust and waterproofing from South Korean firm Yuaiel.  It has also simplified the manufacturing process around water and dust proofing its smartphones, thereby making it easier to mass-produce. That being said, some of the lower-end devices are unlikely to get the same protection as their flagship counterparts.

While water and dust resistance is a significant quality-of-life improvement to low-cost smartphones, it makes repairing them a whole lot harder. Samsung isn't as restrictive as some of its competition when it comes to letting users repair their own products, but the addition of a waterproof adhesive layer will only make tearing down its smartphones a whole lot harder.
