Google has announced two new features for Chrome, one related to Tab Groups and the other related to Safety Check, which are aimed at helping you browse the web more easily and securely. Let’s take a look.

Tab Groups will soon sync across devices

Tab Groups, a feature that helps you to organize tabs and declutter the top bar, is getting a new option: Save Group. Once you enable it by right-clicking on a Tab Group, the browser will sync it with your Google account, and then that Tab Group will appear on all devices logged in with your account.

The new option enables you to access a tab group across devices, making it easier for you to continue working on a project from various devices, such as when you are comparing hotels on different websites. Google says that the new feature will roll out “over the next few weeks in Chrome on desktop.

Safety Check now runs automatically in the background

Coming to the Safety Check, it is a feature that checks if Chrome is up to date, passwords saved in your password manager have been compromised, any extensions are potentially harmful, or site permissions need your attention. At the moment, you have to run Safety Check manually by going to Settings > Privacy and security.

Well, Google says that Safety Check will now run automatically in the background, and alert you if it finds any of the issues mentioned above. These notifications will appear in the menu that pops up when you click the three-dot icon at the top-right corner of the app. The new feature will roll out this week, most probably on desktops.
