Google is preparing to bring new features to its Maps app in India starting in January. These additions will improve the Maps experience with better information, navigation, and AR features.

Furthermore, Google is partnering with India's Open Network for Digital Commerce to provide metro schedules and bookings in Maps. This feature will be coming to Kochi metro in mid-2024 and other metros later in the year.

Starting in January, Google Maps users in India will gain access to Lens in Maps. With this AI and AR-powered feature, Android device users will be able to point their cameras at restaurants or cafes down the street and gain information about ratings, reviews, opening hours, and more.

Even more Google Maps features are coming to India

In addition, Google also plans to release Live View navigation for Maps in India. The feature provides better walking navigation through arrows, distance, and direction markers.

Speaking of navigation, Google Maps will get fuel-efficient routing in India in January. This type of navigation aims for fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

Last but not least, Google Maps will soon offer Address Descriptors, which is a feature that uses machine learning to deliver information on up to five landmarks in relation to pinned addresses.
