Samsung rivals OnePlus, Realme accept defeat in Indian TV market

Samsung, the world's biggest TV brand, does very well in the Indian market, too. It ranked second in India's TV market after Xiaomi, but it looks like Samsung's other Chinese rivals, OnePlus and Realme, have accepted the defeat and decided to leave the Indian TV market in the near future.

OnePlus and Realme to stop selling TVs in India

According to a report from The Times Of India, OnePlus and Realme have stopped the production and sales of TVs in India. Both companies were doing rather well in terms of unit sales, but another report claimed that at least one of these brands struggled with after-sales-related costs. Xiaomi, another Chinese brand, ranks first in the market and will continue to sell TVs in India.

OnePlus launched its first TV in India in partnership with Google and then expanded its TV lineup with more affordable models. Realme launched its first TV in India in 2020 but mostly catered to the affordable market. Now, both brands are trying to clear their TV inventory by offering sales during the ongoing festive season in India.

Samsung, the second-biggest TV brand in India, has historically been the leader of the market, but it started getting fierce competition from Xiaomi. However, Samsung probably earns more profit than Xiaomi as it sells a lot more high-end TVs, while Xiaomi largely caters to the entry-level market.

Author's Note: With OnePlus and Realme leaving the Indian TV market, Samsung and Xiaomi will likely consume that share of the pie as both brands are well-established and have a wide chain of retail stores that sell their TVs. With 4.5 million smart TVs sold in the first half of the year in India, Samsung and Xiaomi could be looking to increase their market shares even further in the second half of the year as a lot of consumers in India buy new TVs during the fourth quarter of the year.
