Samsung Developer Conference 2023 kicked off moments ago, and one of the most highly anticipated announcements was One UI 6.0. Of course, if you followed our news feed, you're likely aware that Samsung has been running a One UI 6.0 beta program for a while. But at SDC23, the company formally announced the upcoming OS update, effectively giving it the stamp of approval for an eventual release that should happen before the end of the year.

The tech giant announced the One UI 6.0 update today under the slogan “Enabling your Galaxy, your way.” Some of the new features the company mentioned on stage at SDC23 include the revamped Quick Panel, a new exclusive typeface called One UI Sans, which improves readability, and new AI photo editing tools.

In addition, the company announced a new One UI 6.0 feature called Samsung Studio, which lets users make multi-layered video edits. With the Studio tool, One UI 6.0 users can use multiple layers to add text, stickers, and music exactly where they want in a video's timeline.

Many more features and improvements in One UI 6.0

Although Samsung didn't talk about everything new in One UI 6.0 at SDC23, we have seen a glimpse of many other new features thanks to the beta program for the Galaxy S23 series.

Some One UI 6.0 features you might want to be aware of are:

    • New emoji design.
    • Picture and video previews in the Share panel.
• More sharing options.
    • Multitasking improvements through a pop-up window that can remain open after you leave the Recents screen.
    • A lock screen clock that can be positioned freely.
    • Simplified app icon labels for the home screen.
    • A new Weather widget, more information in the Weather app — including an interactive map view — and enhanced Weather illustrations.
    • A wide range of camera improvements, including a new widget, more alignment options for watermarks, quick access to resolution settings, easy-to-apply filters and effects, and more.
    • Improvements to Calendar, Reminder, and Samsung Internet.
    • Quick actions for apps in Finder search results.
    • Recommendations in the My Files app to help you free up storage.
    • Smarter Airplane mode.
    • Auto Blocker, which is an extra layer of protection preventing unknown apps from installing, checking malware, and blocking malicious commands from being sent via a USB connection.
    • Customizable Bixby text call greetings and the option to switch to Bixby text call at any time, even during a call.
    • More accessibility features, including new magnification options and custom cursor thickness options.

And there's a lot more to this upcoming update. You can gather additional details from our One UI 6.0 page.

Samsung hasn't revealed when One UI 6.0 will go live, but the Galaxy S23 series will probably be the first to receive the update after the beta program concludes. And it will probably get the update before the end of the year. We'll keep you posted.

Dozens of Galaxy phones and tablets are eligible for the One UI 6.0 update once it goes live, including the majority of foldable Galaxy phones, numerous Galaxy A, M, and F devices, and the Galaxy Tab S8-and-newer tablet lineups. However, the One UI 6.0 update won't be released for all these devices at once, and availability will expand gradually over the course of a few weeks or months.
