Galaxy Z Flip 5 takes a beating in durability test, looks tougher than Z Flip 4

There are always discussions about the durability of foldable phones. While such questions are legitimate, smartphone companies, such as Samsung, have been making efforts to make foldable phones more durable with each passing year. Samsung's latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, recently went through the durability test by famous YouTuber JerryRigEverything, and the result is on the positive side.

Zack Nelson, who has the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, put the Galaxy Z Flip 5 through the hammer. Speaking of the test, the phone's screen, which has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, started showing scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper scratches at level 7. This is similar to other smartphones for years now.

The inner display starts getting scratched at level 2, with deeper groves at level 3. This is expected as the screen is made of UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass). When the screens were put under the burning test, both screens started showing signs of burning after a few seconds. According to Nelson, Galaxy Z Flip 5 users should not press too hard while using the internal screen and protect it from coins and keys.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was then put through the bend test. The phone's hinge held up, and amazingly, there was no sign of bending, unlike other foldable phones like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Interestingly, Nelson bent the Galaxy Z Flip 5 multiple times from the back, yet the phone worked perfectly. He even poured dust and dirt all over it, and it still kept working without any major issues. The device even worked perfectly.

Overall, JRE's test shows that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is quite a durable flip phone, especially when compared to others in the market. The test simulates real-world usage, and while the phone seems tough for a flip phone, it still isn't as durable as a traditional slab phone.
