Samsung has announced that three of its researchers have been elected vice-chairs of the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) body. 3GPP is the world's largest telecom standard development organization. Kyeongin Jeong, a researcher from Samsung Research America, is the newly elected face vice-chair for 3GPP's Radio Access Network Working Group 2 (RAN WG2).

Jaeyeon Song from Samsung Research and Narendranath Durga Tangudu from Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore have been re-elected to vice-chair after successfully completing a two-year term. With this, Samsung now has seven officials at 3GPP; two chairs and five vice chairs.

Jaeyeon Song will continue to vice-chair the 3GPP's Service and System Aspects Working Group 4 (SA WG4). This group is focused on advancing technology to support immersive media services, which include video streaming and extended reality based on 5G. On the other hand, Narendranath Durga Tangudu will remain vice-chair of the group that helps develop open interface standards to expand 5G networks to third parties, including ISPs.

Thanks to its leadership at the 3GPP, Samsung is now at the forefront of bringing technological innovation across the entire telecom industry. Apart from 5G, Samsung is also investing heavily in R&D for 6G, which will be created in cooperation with the member companies of 3GPP and aims to commercialize it around 2030.
