Netflix is among the most popular video streaming platform worldwide. While there are paid plans for you to hop onto to watch the content in its best quality, Netflix introduced the ‘Basic With Ads' plan in November for $6.99/month. As soon as this tier was announced in the US, it faced harsh criticism from users for its limited video streaming support, which was capped at 720p.

The criticism went off the roof when its rival Disney+ launched its ad-supported plan ‘Disney+ Basic' for $7.99/month, which lets users stream content in Full HD, HDR10, 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, and Expanded Aspect Ratio with IMAX Enhanced. Now, in its Q1 2023 earnings report, Netflix has announced some changes to its Basic With Ads plan.

Netflix's Basic With Ads plan is available in Canada and Spain immediately

Apparently, users on the Netflix Basic With Ads plan will be able to stream content at 1080p without any extra cost. Apart from this, the streaming giant has also said that it would increase the number of simultaneous streams from one to two. Netflix users in Canada and Spain can enjoy streaming 1080p content on the Basic With Ads plan immediately. However, other regions, including the UK, the US, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea, will get the feature by the end of this month.

Diving into the earnings reports, it is noted that the Netflix Basic With Ads plan already brings in more revenue as compared to the standard plan, which costs $15.49/month and offers HD streaming. It is expected that in the future, the Basic With Ads plan will improve its revenue generation, thanks to the added support of 1080p streaming. Netflix also announced the shutting down of the mailed DVD delivery service, which began nearly 25 years ago.
