Alleged Exynos 2400 chipset specs revealed in “reliable leak”

As you probably know, Samsung's new Galaxy S23 series uses a Qualcomm chipset exclusively. It's Snapdragon everywhere, and prospective buyers no longer have to worry about getting an Exynos-powered flagship phone in some markets. Everyone gets to experience the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and on top of that, they're getting an overclocked version with improved performance.

Nevertheless, Samsung may still want to create its own Exynos SoCs for the high-end smartphone market. And a new so-called “reliable leak” reveals the alleged CPU core configuration of the next-gen unannounced Samsung mobile chipset, presumably called “Exynos 2400.”

Samsung's Exynos 2400 rumored to have 10 CPU cores

If this new leak is accurate, the Exynos 2400 chipset will sport one Cortex-X4 core, two Cortex A720 high-frequency cores, three Cortex-A720 low-frequency cores, and an additional four Cortex-A520 cores for a total of 10 CPU cores. The information regarding the unannounced Exynos 2400 SoC was shared by Ice Universe on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, citing a “reliable leak.”

Now, assuming that the Exynos 2400 is in development, there's no reason to believe that Samsung will have to use it for its next-gen Galaxy smartphones. There's the possibility that Samsung will continue collaborating exclusively with Qualcomm for Galaxy flagship chipsets and develop the Exynos 2400 SoC for other clients from China, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme, and so on.

As to when this new Exynos 2400 chip might be released, it's anyone's guess. If the chip becomes a reality, it could go on sale later this year or next year. But if Samsung skipped the Exynos 2300 name, as this leak suggests, the company may plan to bring the Exynos 2400 to the market in 2024.

According to Counterpoint Research, shipment-wise, Samsung had a global smartphone chipset market share of 7% in Q3 2022, up from 5% in Q3 2021. But the Korean tech giant was outperformed by many of its rivals, including UNISOC, Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek.
