There's been a lot of back-and-forth regarding Samsung's pricing strategy for the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra. Some reports say that the phones will be more expensive, while others suggest that the price hike may happen only in select markets. Unfortunately for prospective buyers in India, a new leak indicates that the Galaxy S23 series may cost more than the S22 did it launch.

According to an alleged Galaxy S23 price list for India, Samsung's base flagship model will cost INR 79,999 ($980), while the top-most variant could cost INR 83,999 ($1,029). Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23+ will cost INR 89,999 ($1,103), and the base Galaxy S23 Ultra could launch for INR 114,999 ($1,409). (via MySmartPrice)

What did the Galaxy S22 series cost at launch?

As a point of reference, the base Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra were released in India for INR 72,999 ($894), INR 84,999 ($1,042), and INR 109,999 ($1,348) respectively — converted from INR to USD at the current rate. So, by the looks of it, the Galaxy S23 series may be roughly $50-$100 more expensive in India than the previous models, but Samsung could make up for it with attractive pre-order bonuses and free accessory bundles.

Samsung will announce the Galaxy S23 series on February 1. Prospective buyers in India can already reserve the flagship and benefit from exclusive colors as well as INR 5,000 if they pay INR 1,999 upon pre-reserving the device.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the first in the company's flagship lineup to boast a 200MP primary camera. The upcoming flagships should also be powered exclusively by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a unique version of the SoC at that, boasting higher frequencies for improved performance.

The Galaxy S23 and S23+ — which will have flat back panels and displays — have also adopted a new design for the rear-facing cameras, abandoning the traditional camera hump in favor of individual cutouts for each of their three sensors.
