Samsung's new Galaxy S21 flagship trio brings about a ton of significant upgrades over the previous generation, and this is especially true for the Galaxy S21 Ultra variant. But as you may already know, Samsung did cut a few corners with the new series and some downgrades had to be made. One of the biggest, arguably, is the removal of expandable storage.

Indeed, the rumors turned out to be true and none of the new Galaxy S21 models come with a microSD card slot, hybrid or otherwise. The base model and the Galaxy S21+ come with 128GB or 256GB of built-in storage, whereas the Galaxy S21 Ultra is offered in three configurations with 128GB / 256GB / 512GB of memory.

Goodbye expandable storage, we'll miss you from the Cloud

128GB / 256GB / 512GB should be plenty for a large portion of the user base but the lack of a microSD card slot will inevitably rub some prospective buyers the wrong way. This decision by Samsung will not only further fuel the removal of features narrative but it will also pose a real problem for users who require more storage, whether it's because they do a lot of mobile photography or for other reasons.

Cloud storage through One Drive or other services might become essential to some users, so it's a good thing that every Galaxy S21 model ships with 5G connectivity while the Ultra variant also has the added benefit of Wi-Fi 6E support.

How do you feel about Samsung's decision to remove the microSD card slot from the entire Galaxy S21 flagship series? Do you actually use external storage on your current flagship phone? Do you like the idea of having the option in case you need it? Or are you indifferent about this feature? Let us know in the comment section below.
