Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Everything you need to know

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is Samsung’s first wide-screen foldable phone. It was announced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in July 2026 and will compete directly with Apple’s first foldable smartphone, rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 brings several notable changes compared to previous Galaxy Z Fold models.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a wide-screen form factor, making it shorter and wider than most book-style foldable phones, including earlier Galaxy Z Fold models and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Its form factor makes it easier to carry and a lot more versatile for a lot of content consumption usecases.

It has a sleek Advanced Armor Aluminum frame and a foldable design. The phone is IP48-rated for dust and water resistance, while the cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. Its dimensions are listed below.

When folded, the device offers a 5.5-inch bezel-less cover display with a resolution of 1,248 x 1,972 pixels. When unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch foldable display, featuring a 1,848 x 2,448 pixels resolution. Both screens use LTPO OLED panels with a 1Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate, HDR10+, and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits.

The phone's inner display uses a newer hinge mechanism that makes the display tougher and appear more flat, resulting in reduced crease visibility. It also features an anti-reflective coating to reduce reflections and glare by up to 50% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

With stereo speakers and a wider 4:3 aspect ratio, the device offers an excellent experience for video consumption.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a dual-camera setup on the rear. It consists of a 50MP primary camera with an F1.8 aperture and a 50MP ultrawide camera with an F1.9 aperture. It also has a 10MP front-facing camera with an F2.2 aperture on both the cover and inner displays.

The primary camera includes OIS and dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus, while the 50MP ultrawide camera has quad-pixel phase-detection autofocus. The front-facing cameras lack autofocus and OIS.

All cameras support 4K 60fps video recording, while the rear cameras also supports up to 8K 30fps recording. HDR10+ and Super HDR video recording are also supported. The new My FanCam feature lets you track a person or subject in an existing video and automatically crop it as per your preferred aspect ratio.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. It is paired with 12GB/16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and offers 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.

Other features include GNSS (BDS, Galileo, GPS, and QZSS), 5G, LTE, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds of up to 5Gbps.

The device is powered by a 4,800mAh battery. It supports up to 45W wired charging (Super Fast Charging 2.0) and 20W wireless charging (Fast Wireless Charging 2.0) with Qi2 Ready certification.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 launches with Android 17 and One UI 9. It includes features such as Galaxy AI, Samsung DeX, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, Samsung TV Plus, Secure Folder, and extensive customization options.

Samsung is offering up to seven years of software updates for the device. With new Galaxy AI features like Call Brief, My FanCam, and enhanced Now Nudges, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 makes it even more easier to breeze through your tasks.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 was announced on 22 July 2026, during the Galaxy Unpacked event, and went on pre-order on the same day in select markets.
