Samsung announced new ARTIK system-on-modules and services for the ARTIK IoT platform, which have been designed to improve the security protocols used when transmitting data from a device to the cloud, at its Developer Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.

The new ARTIK modules combine hardware-backed security with pre-integrated memory, processing and connectivity for a broad range of IoT applications to protect data and prevent devices from being taken over, disabled or used maliciously.

ARTIK is Samsung's integrated Smart IoT platform.

In addition, the firm revealed that the ARTIK IoT ecosystem will integrate with SmartThings Cloud, its new unified IoT platform. The integration will, at last, enable interoperability with both Samsung and third-party IoT devices and IoT cloud services—hurrah!

ARTIK provides companies with everything they need to develop secure IoT products

“The ARTIK IoT platform with SmartThings Cloud will provide everything companies need to quickly develop secure IoT products and services including production-ready hardware, software and tools, cloud services and a growing partner ecosystem,” said Samsung.

“The addition of new ARTIK secure modules enables device-level protection for safe data exchange, interoperability, and secure access to ARTIK IoT services, including device onboarding, orchestration, management, and over-the-air updates.”
