Those who picked up a new Samsung Smart TV to watch the much-anticipated Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight on Saturday could be out of luck. According to The Guardian, a number of customers in the UK have had their TV bricked by a firmware update, rendering it useless.
Users on Samsung's forums note that their UE50MU6100K, UE49MU7070 and MU6409 models either won't change the channel or won't display anything after the splash screen. The firm is reportedly working on an update to patch the bug, but there's no word on when it will start rolling out.
Update: Samsung has issued a statement on the matter.
Samsung is aware of a small number of TVs in the UK (fewer than 200) affected by a firmware update to 2017 MU series TVs on 17 August. Once this issue was identified, the update was switched off and we are now working with each customer to resolve the issue. Any customers affected are encouraged to get in touch with Samsung directly by calling 0330 726 7864. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused our customers.
