Samsung Pay adds support for PayPal

Big news for Samsung Pay customers in the United States: you can now pay for goods both online and in brick-and-mortar stores using PayPal.

While accessibility is restricted to the aforementioned region, it should make its way to other countries where Samsung Pay is currently available in the not-too-distant future.

“Customers will be able to use their Samsung Pay to access and use their PayPal wallet, letting them make a payment in millions of stores,” explains Samsung in a post on its Newsroom.

Once you’ve linked your PayPal account to Samsung Pay, you’ll be able to benefit from Samsung’s generous reward program whenever you spend your virtual PayPal Balance.

“At Samsung, we pride ourselves on our open model of partnership and collaboration, which helps us deliver the best experiences to our customers,” said Injong Rhee, CTO and Head of R&D, Software and Services.

Teaming up with PayPal is certainly a smart business move on Samsung’s part. For as long as we can remember, PayPal users have been requesting a convenient way to pay for goods using their Balance — and now they finally can.

“We [Samsung] are excited to be partnering with PayPal, one of the largest payment platforms in the world, to offer our global consumers a richer mobile wallet experience,” Rhee added.

You’d think this would allow Samsung Pay to be used in all countries that support PayPal but no. They had to do things backwards ?

“PayPal Balance” – does that mean that you have to transfer money from your account to Paypal beforehand?

gremlin007

I believe you have to do that for Android Pay-Paypal integration so I’m guessing it will probably be the same for Samsung Pay.

Still be useless in the UK unless they bring support for more banks and MST. They have really lost the UK public, probably why they don’t bother with UK phones anymore. You keep reporting that the UK is getting monthly updates when it is not. I have a BTU S8+ and before the June update I was on April. And still not seeing July

Can’t see the UK getting MST as the banks won’t support that. And I’ve got a BTU S7e and that’s still on April. Unlike my (older) Sony Z4 LTE tablet, that’s on 7.1.1 and June.

MST will not happen here in the UK. We’re very much converted to contactless (NFC). My XEU S8 is on July update. Got it on the 13th.

Spend a day in Cardiff, the Welsh capital and you will find very few NFC enabled terminals. I was surprised but it just reiterates the need for the technology why include it but not feature it. and yes, you don’t understand how angry I was to get Galaxy phones from a carrier and to have to wait months before it arrived while the BTU unlocked version got them instantly. Now that I go unlocked direct from Samsung, ALL carriers are getting the latest updates weeks/months before the unlocked version. Have actually gone and complained to Samsung about it. How can… Read more »
