The company is going to team up with several financial institutions at launch, including the Union Bank of Taiwan, E.Sun Bank, Taishin International Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered, Cathay United Bank and Taipei Fubon Bank.
More banks will join the list in the coming days once Samsung Pay's official launch date for Taiwan is confirmed. The launch is expected to take place on May 23.
Samsung is likely to see a good response for its mobile payments service in the country. That's because its smartphones were top sellers in the country last year. They account for over 22 percent of Taiwan's smartphone market.
Once Samsung Pay is live in the country, those who own compatible devices like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S7 will be able to make payments effortlessly using their mobile devices. They'll just need to bring their phone near the POS and Samsung Pay will handle the rest.
