[Poll] How would you feel if Samsung didn’t include a 3.5mm audio jack on the Galaxy S8?

Would you agree if Samsung drops the headphone jack from the Galaxy S8?

If you’ve been following news from the technology industry recently, I’m sure you’re aware of Apple’s rumored decision to remove the traditional 3.5mm audio jack from its upcoming iPhone 7. Instead, it will release a handful of headphones in partnership with Beats that have been specifically designed to work with its homegrown Lightning connector. The Cupertino company is also expected to take the wraps off a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, which will enable customers to use their own earphones with the handset.

What we’d love to know how you’d feel if Samsung followed in Apple’s footsteps by dropping the 3.5mm audio plugin from the Galaxy S8 in favor of the flurry of USB Type-C headsets that are set to hit the market from leading manufacturers, including Audio-Technica, Beats, Bowers & Wilkins, Sennheiser, and Sony. Let us know your thoughts by selecting one of the options from the poll below, and by leaving a more detailed comment in the section at the bottom of this page.

Samsung will be provide an Bluetooth or NFC headset instead a 3,5mm jack headset ? In a flagship that the consumer spend a lot of money, Samsung can ahed for us.

I think its a good idea, as long as you provide a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box! At least until USB-C becomes more mainstream.

You shouldn’t assume that you won’t be able to charge while using usb type c headphones. This is something that the specification provides and something that certainly the manufacturers will take care of.

Ya. Its called ‘wireless charging’

i don’t want to bring a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter everywhere i go. And plus i can’t charge my phone while hearing music with my headphones. And majority of the headphones out there still uses 3.5mm. So please don’t ever remove the 3.5mm earphones.

What is the reason to remove it? If there is a good reason why YES but otherwise forget it

I didn’t care when Apple were rumoured to remove it, didn’t care that motorola removed it and I still don’t care, using bluetooth or USB-C to 3.5mm.

Really bad idea !

Guys Im not saying this is a good change but its worth a try. USB-C can be anything. An adapter that has charging and 3.5 jack at the same time, or charging and HDMI at the same time. I rarely use headset anyway.

First of all I would like to say I REALLY wish Samsung would quit following iPhone designs! Here’s the thing, constant plugging and unplugging of headphones and charger from a single port, I feel will shorten the lifespan of the port. Leave the headphone jack where it is Samsung!

Apple did it first, Samsung will follow, ahem sorry, innovate 😉

Removing a 3.5 jack is not innovation i think

Um no they haven’t it’s a spec they did not create and Motorola used first thanks bye bye now

I’m not paying an other 500 dollars to get a usb type freaking c headphone just because samsung wants to be more like apple in messing with device holes.
I’m also not buying a DAC
And I’m never buying a trendy too expensive stupid 3.5 to usbc adapter.
Seriously since when did all the tech progress and innovation turned into hole changing and blue coral?

Stupid poll. 3.5mm jacks accept ear/headphone plugs any way without having to look at the direction of entry. USB Type C will need either side set before pushing the plug in. 3.5mm jacks all the way

Somehow, it still would be okay for me cause sooner or later, I’m gonna grab the IconX.

Still, it’d be better with 3.5mm jack as with BT, you use more battery power than just plugging in the wire.

I honestly hate the idea of companies dropping the 3.5mm headphone port in their mobile devices. While it’s true that you get better sound quality from USB Type-C headphones. You won’t be able to charge your device and listen to music at the same time on the go. Oppo tried this in the past on one of their devices and it was not very well received.

Do you guys realize that charging your phone while listening to music won’t be possible if “only” USB type c headphone would be implemented..

I know a lot of people jumping ship from Apple because of stuff like this that Apple is doing.. that and the IP7 is kind of meh for improvements. Samsung put down the crack pipe.. don’t do this until the market is ready. The market won’t be ready until bluetooth sound quality drastically improves and wireless charging improves. Either of these advancements would make it so I don’t have to choose between audio or charging my phone via the USB C port.

We at Samsung listened to our customers and the Galaxy s9 has been provided with a new and improved 3.5mm headphone port lmao

just give me Gear IconX free with S8, I don’t care about 3.5mm Jack

vitorvedder

The thing about the 3.5mm is that it only supports analogue 2.0 sound. With usb the number of channels can be increased. So yeah, I wouldn’t mind if they included an adapter.

jamesmullen75
jamesmullen75

On flights I like to both charge my phone and use my Bose noise canceling ear buds… so yeah, hosed if I lose the headphone jack. The only solution I can see are more wireless charging bricks like the new accessory wireless charging backpack by Samsung..

Vibgyoar

You only have two ears (both analogue), adding more channels to earphones won’t make any difference.

vitorvedder

You probably never used a surround headset.

How would I feel ? Naah .. Samsung doesn’t care about my feelings.

A simple adaptor make the same job. No worries.

warlockba

It can’t (at least not in the standard form), or not that easy. Read up what USB Type-C Audio really means; in worstcase you will not have the hardware which generates the headphone signal anymore, to put it plain simple.

jamesmullen75
jamesmullen75

Not if you also want to charge the phone at the same time.

I plug my mobile into several things, my aux in, in my car, my internet radio etc. Hardly ever used for a headset. essential and no need to change this at all, there is no progress in dropping it

iamnigeloke
iamnigeloke

Its not about USB-C headsets, analogue 3.5mm headsets are still used by many, and those with audiophile mid-range impedance headphones will be left disappointed in the dust if the S8 does not come with a built-in jack. (I’m already speculating that the IR Blaster still wont make its return, and if that is true, I’m sticking to my S6)

eHoolie

That is one reason I would never go back to Apple/iPhone. Pure stupidity. I’m sure Apple will lose some sales over this. If Samsung followed I would find other alternatives.
