T-Mobile Galaxy S4 receives new update to fix Stagefright vulnerability

T-Mobile is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy S4, it’s not a major update which brings any new features to the handset, but it’s a very important update nonetheless. The carrier has finally rolled out the Stagefright fix for this device so it’s imperative for users to download and install this update as soon as it lands on their handset.

Stagefright is the name of a security vulnerability that was discovered in Android recently, it can allow hackers to gain access to a target’s device only by sending a video clip with embedded malware through a MMS message. Google and Samsung have already rolled out the fix but carriers have held it up for several devices, it’s good to see that T-Mobile has now pushed it out for the Galaxy S4. This update moves the device up to baseband M919UVUFOH3 and weighs in at around 15MB. T-Mobile is rolling it out today and it should go live for all users across the United States soon enough.

i want to know if i can install, a i337 firmware 5.0 in a M919 because i want to have lollipop in my old s4

I wouldn’t. But, I did install both the CM 12.1 and a ROM Called Candy5, and both are really great Lollipop roms. In fact, on the XDA forum, I found Marshmallow for the S4 (CM 13) and so far it’s been stable. Waiting for T-Mobile, Metro PCS or any other carrier will drive you crazy. They don’t care what your old phone has on it. Learn how to flash a custom rom. The instructions are easy and you will be totally happy with your phone again.

In early August 2015 Jin Koh, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Research at Samsung Electronics explains:
“Since software is constantly exploited in new ways, developing a fast response process to deliver security patches to our devices is critical to keep them protected. We believe that this new process will vastly improve the security of our devices and will aim to provide the best mobile experience possible for our users.”
A month later the majority of Samsung devices on the market have no security update, so vulnerable. We must admit that they moves “quickly” (snail speed) and are really “concerned” about our security and experience.

The worst thing is that only carriers released stagefright fix. For a lot of user that use stock firmware released by samsung itself still nothing.
They also claimed they worked with carriers to release these updates faster but seems that thei’re not the problem

I wish they would just tell us yes or no as to whether or not we will get Lollipop for our S4. If I knew for sure we weren’t going to get it, I would root and flash one of the Lollipop ROMs that are available out there.
