Samsung expects the Galaxy S6 to outsell its predecessors

Yesterday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge at its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event in Barcelona, Spain. One of the major changes with its new smartphones is the design, it’s a drastic change compared to their older siblings. Mr. JK Shin, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics, made it clear on stage that the company has designed the new smartphones keeping the customer feedback in mind, and learning from both its successes and missteps in the past.

According to the positive initial feedback received by the products, Andy Tu – GM, Samsung mobile communication, Taiwan – believes that the Galaxy S6 will outsell its predecessors. 2014 wasn’t a great year for Samsung, its market share plummeted and the Galaxy S5 received poor sales. The Korean firm is now doing everything it can to be back on the number one spot, and so far things are looking good.

The biggest disappointment customers had with the Galaxy S5 was its cheap plastic build, they felt that the device wasn’t premium enough to be worthy of its hefty price tag. Samsung has fixed exactly that with the S6 by going with a glass and metal construction, at an expense, however. Samsung had to get rid of its two major selling points, a removable battery and microSD slot to expand storage. So, we shall see how customers react when the device goes on sale in Q2, 2015.

Lol Sammobile And Samsung If you want to get as many sales $ 500 from the sale of dis- connect the everybody take What do you sell you 800 euro or the phone is not sold

That’s beyond delusional. I’d be surprised even if it sells better than S5. I honestly expect a rise in S5/Note 4/Iphone 6/Iphone 6+ sales and a huge decline in S6 sales. I predict that by June S6 will cost off contract less than about 450$. People that are their real costumers and keep the money rolling in weren’t the ones that were complaining all this time about all the stuff the S line isn’t so it’s already a huuuge fail for them.

You guy complaining about SD card, no doubt its a great feature missing but you can’t have it. Imagine the presence of SD card and the phone becomes slower, you will still complain of lag. The thing sammy has in mind with this device is user experience, hence some old features missing. They want a lag friend and super fast phone with good user experience which i think they did well. The price is only 50 more than s5 when it launched. This phone is far better than s5 and consists of new technology.

i could see somehow this is a good chance for other vendors to take some portion of disappointed samsung user. interesting to see how other vendor respond to this.

sony (and so motorola) quite settled with their design by now and i don’t think they won’t change that much soon. to be honest i’m waiting to see what LG would do. if they do it right, they can boost their sales significantly this year. along with some other vendor such as oneplus.

The companies that are giving Samsung the most problems (Xiaomi and Apple) have no SD card or removable backs so I could understand why they would think it a small risk to go this way — THE MAJORITY CUSTOMERS dont care about that shit.

Even Xiaomi has a glass back in china and it sells so stop hating.

I JUST LOVE the new S6. I currently have a Note 4 and can’t wait to change it, even if I have to change my Oculus gear VR again. It’s just everything I wanted. No lateral bezels, slim, fast and good looking. Why have a slow 64gb sdxc card (be honest, do you have a 128gb card?) instead of 128gb fast internal memory? Of course I’ll miss the spare batteries, but I cab compromise. Samsung listens to the PAYING CUSTOMERS like me, not every xmass present s2 techie wannabe owner, complaining about not having everything for free. Just grow up.

Honestly, sammy did a great job in improving the design, but I think sammy is going backwards instead of moving forward. Just my opinion. peace!

Things getting too complicated with Android… I love my Note4, but going broke trying to keep up every year… My wife has S5 which has it’s own problems (people cannot hear her etc. – not a problem on her S4) and will probably be going to S6… I am seriously thinking of getting out of the rat race and going back to Blackberry via the Z-30! Great phone by all accounts.

Tell her to try some calls without any case on her S5. Seems like the microphone is very sensitive sometimes. Else her unit is defective.

To all complaining about battery, SD-Card or waterproofness (no idea, how it’s called ;)) of the phone – Battery – fast recharging with built-in wireless charging. Good enough for me, assuming that I removed battery in my S4 2 times since the purchase 🙂 And, I own external power bank, so I’m good with it. SD-Card – I was kind of dissapointed aswell, but than – by using a 64GB phone I actually don’t need additional memory. Additionally, in era of Google Drive and such it’s not an issue anymore. Complaining about the phone beeing not waterproof – what the… Read more »

Okay I just read your comment and it was absolutely hilarious. #1). Battery. They have decreased the capacity from previous generations. They improved the screen which will increase power consumption. Now you will probably try to counter with how the processor is 30% more efficient. Last time I checked, a phone’s most draining aspect of its battery was uh.. the screen. Yeah you improved 30% on the processor but it that only deals with 10-20% max of your battery’s total energy consumption, that doesn’t do that much. Next point in regards to the battery. It is not removable and not… Read more »

You made some valid points but then again among the big players only LG still produces phones with removeable battery and we are yet to see how G4 would turn out. M9 doesn’t have and most likely Z4 wouldn’t as well. The internals would make the battery perform well and would last at least 3 years before needing a change Regarding SD card, the presense of it could slow down the phone fluidity and customers would complain of lag which sammy is trying to eliminate. Yes, its a great feature but then again there are alternatives. Cloud, PC etc. The… Read more »

I’m no techie but ppl who complaining about battery not removable, why just not get a power bank, wireless charger pad, battery case…..?????

For the persons concerned about the battery life going down after a year or two, is it impossible to open the phone and put in a new battery??? and if you cant do it for yourself, carry it at a shop and this is a one time deal because by the 3rd year, you are already looking to upgrade.

I think they left out,the SD card on the S6 cuz they might discourage the Galaxy Edge sales.

They can fit an SD card slot on the S6 but they chose not to. All or none I guess.

They Galaxy A7 is all metal and thinner. yet it has a SD card slot.

The s6 is now in Iphone and htc territory. LoTs of options available now. I don’t think this Device is going to save them. If you notice samsung has an habit of messing up their s series, learn their lesson, and then go on to produce great note serie devices. Hope they don’t go and mess up note series now!

its certainly going to be interesting to see what happens, its defo better than the LG and HTC offerings but I still think the Iphone 6 has the edge in looks, when the iphone goes amoled i think that will be the nail in the coffin. The S6 and might pull some customers over from HTC and LG but there its going to customer losses from those who prefer function over looks like myself who preffered SD/Battery/water resistance.

This phone will try to attract people who buy a device because it’s trendy and it has a fashion look, not because it has the best tech features. I guess that in next months Samsung will launch a Galaxy A6 (or however it will be called) with some features taken from S6 (camera, screen size, RAM, internal memory module, fingerprint sensor…), but with a good old plastic back cover and microSD slot (and why not, maybe a removable battery…). And a price tag at 500/550 €

I own Note Edge, the best smartphone so far…
I don’t understand why S6 Edge is called “Edge” without Edge capabilities … it should be called “Curved”, or something like this at most.
I’ve been waiting for S6 Edge, but for now, S6 Edge without Edge, and SD Card, it is a BIG disappointment only.
Without SD Card, S6 is … a shot in the knee…

I am sure it will! This phone is the best Galaxy yet. I am slightly worried about the battery backup as battery capacity has come down and the screen resolution has got a huge upgrade. But the new processor is supposed to be more battery friendly and the new TW lighter than the earlier iterations.

NEWS FLASH: Samsung to correct BIG mistake on not having a MicroSD card on the S6….

jamezr

Everyone comparing the S6 to the iphone…..then disparaging the S6 because it does not have a removable battery or SD card or water-proofing. Yet the iphone doesn’t any of those things either.
Samsung just can’t win no matter what they do. People complained the Galaxy line was plastic and cheap and it it needs premium materials like the iphone. Voila! the S6 has better build materials than the iphone. But still the haters complain.

Hi Samsung, this time I have to applaud you for making such a bold move to make a difference. Again, let’s not be too proud of initial feedback but continue to do the right thing. To not disappoint your dedicated fan or whoever would like to jump ship from another brand or for the upgrade. Please set priority to make popular color such as Gold version to be available at launch. Let not make your fan get another dislike color bcoz Gold version is not available at Sales Launch. Samsung has done right to choose 14nm processor, LPDDR4 memory, Curve… Read more »

The non techy market will love the S6 and it’ll sell well. Samsung doesn’t need to worry about the rest of us complaining about SD Card and Removable battery, we only make up a nihce part of the market.

Agreed. If samsung is smart they would release a goe edition for the tech conscious and market these to the general mass. Competition is great and now lets see what apple comes back with. So samsung can top them again.

In two words: Keep Dreaming: Facts: Samsung drafted the S6/S6 edge (as edge on 2G networks) as another attempt to take iPhone customers, too bad again, samsung bets on an android devices that mimics whats most android users criticize from the iPhone, by coping the not-so popular (outside apple realm) Apple’s formulas, neither will attract iPhone users, neither will interest on traditional samsung buyers. While Samsung’s owners (I’m among that) asked for more build quality, this doesnt mean to saccrifice key features as REMOVABLE SD, BATTERY AND WATERPROOF. Another fail: was to bet againg (and w/o actuual sense) on screen… Read more »

Is that why no one buys a sony or HTC. They may get more reapect but the average person buys samsung because it has been marketed the best. Apple sells 10’s of millions of iphone because of marketing. Not becuase it is the best phone. Samsung is not trying to please the tech conscious but the masses. And as a buisness way of thinking that is smart. The S6 will be the best selling phone for samsung ever for one reason. Marketing and premium build quality. I am intrigued how good the camera really is. If it really is better… Read more »

I disagree with you, facts HTC ditched SD card slot with ONE m7 (first with full unibody housing), then the M8 reinstalled this (and HTC sales rised enough to stop red numbers), now this year the HTC crouwd will get what they want: an upgraded M8 with an actually good camera, conservative but actually means HTC is keeping its user base and sure will add Ex-Sammy and some iThinkers to its crownd. Samsung missed to watch that. I’ve serious complaint also on providing full glass on the back, it looks cool, but on the iPhone 4 this was an wak… Read more »

What a load of b.s Sony and HTC are listening to their customers.. I bought the note 4 with the expectation it’ll get quickly updated to 5.0, where’s that now? Sure other makers are slowly rolling it out too but their communication with their customer base is a dam sight better that samsung. Removing SD card is a huge mistake, and non removable battery makes it a monumental mistake!! I moved from an iphone for those 2 reasons, along with the better hardware and Android (of course). So good luck with sales for the S6 samsung, from what I’ve been… Read more »

Wrong. The design (mainly of the S6 Edge) is incredible. HTC owners are complaining that the M9 is just an upgrade, same as the S5 was last year. Yes, there are lots of people pissed about the lack of slots and backs, but that doesn’t stop millions from buying phones that already lack them, so that point is a negative to some, nothing to others. I won’t be buying the S6 or Edge, because I’m waiting for the Note 5. However, I can honestly say that I was totally underwhelmed, to the point of dismay, at the lack of innovation… Read more »

4 months or 4 days after release ? 🙂 I totally agree with you. Owner of a S5 and all previous Galaxy S, i can only say that Samsung surprised me with S6 Edge. I can understand that some people miss their SD card slot and maybe their removable battery. But these are “fake” troubles : SD card was really useful because we had low internal storage in all previous Galaxy S. Removable battery was useful in case of custom roms flashing or swapping yourself dead batteries. Now that S6 promises real higher and incredibly faster internal storage SDcard gets… Read more »

With 32gb there is no real need of microSD but removal battery is just a deal breaker for me. You don’t realize that until your original battery starts to last less and less after 1 or 2 years of heavy use. If you don’t have removal battery to replace the old one in most cases you end up replacing the whole phone or paying a lot to have it changed, why? If it’s a good phone that you want to keep like my note 4 why do I have to ditch it only because the battery is dead despite the… Read more »

You are right. I still don’t understand what the people at Samsung especially the design department was thinking. That’s the most embarrassing part of many, the design. Why on earth would you design it very similar to your archrival latest’s flagship? I’ve seen sooo many pics of so many nice concept designs any of them better than the iphone 6. “Project 0”, yeah right!!! in terms of the design “0” innovation and effort and the way I see it “0” chances to even come close to sell as many as iphone 6 so “0” chances to regain market share.
