Smart TV privacy scare prompts privacy research group to file FTC complaint against Samsung

Samsung had made clear to users of its smart TVs that “if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition”. It appears as though the otherwise harmless disclosure seems to have stimulated an FTC complaint. PC World reports that the complaint is filed by not an individual, but a privacy group — something that will cause Samsung some extra worry.

Consequently, Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has now asked the FTC to look into the matter, and to investigate the practice in concern and perhaps bring it to an end. With the Galaxy S6 launch around the corner, Samsung would've been hoping for better news than this for the moment.
