Samsung’s rise to the summit should come as no surprise, considering the year it has had. Last year, the South Korean giant overtook Nokia as the most profitable handset vendor, and also became the largest handset manufacturer in the world. In a study conducted earlier this month, it was found that Samsung sold over 322 million handsets in 2013, which is almost a third of the 1 billion handsets that were sold globally over the course of the year. With devices like the Galaxy S5 set to make their debut later this year, it is feasible that Samsung will hold onto its crown next year.
Other consumer electronics manufacturers, like Sony and LG have also seen a rise in the rankings from last year.
